Fear not, for I am with you. Isaiah 43:5
We live in a world full for fear. It has become part of every person’s life since the Fall. It’s part of who we are as fallen human beings. Pain is expected and we dread what might happen. Bad things seem to always be around the corner.
Fear is actually a form of unbelief. It is lacking faith in God, and we all from time to time become fearful. Even those of us who know the truth about Christ. Anxiety rises up and takes hold of us, and we let fear dictate our decisions and control us. Fear insnares us. While truth never changes our belief and application of Scripture is overcome by fright.
But it doesn’t have to be that way. God is bigger than our trouble. He is able and wise and he rescues his people. When we turn our attention toward God and fear him, what seemed to be dread in this world pales in comparison to him. We need to understand and grow in fear of the Lord.
So, how do you get rid of your fears? Replace your fear of man and this world with fear of the Lord. Reverence and submission to him, leads to obedience and trust and hope. Holy fear is what you need. Seek him when you are afraid and his holy justice will redeem you. The Lord says in Isaiah, “Fear not, for I am with you.” what a glorious promise. Several chapters before Isaiah says, “And he will be the stability of your times, abundance of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is Zion’s treasure.” Fear of the Lord is key to this treasure of promises and hope.
