To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever.” 1 Timothy 1:17
This morning, after my devotions, I heard a beautiful song by Andrew Peterson, Is He Worthy? (click on the title to hear it for yourself). Andrew sings of the immense worth of Jesus Christ. It led me into more worship of our Savior and desire to share his worth with you and others.
What is he worth? Paul tells Timothy in his first letter, chapter one, verse 16, that he [Paul] was saved so that Christ’s perfect patience would encourage others to repent and believe. That is what he means by Christ’s patience being displayed in him as an example.
Paul said just before this that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” (v. 15), of which he [Paul] was the worse. Paul not only saw his salvation as a great gift to him, his salvation was also for others to repent and believe in Jesus.
He then goes into praise to God in verse 17, “To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever.” Christ is shown to be great in the saving of great sinners. For this Christ deserves honor and glory forever!
Paul’s speaking of his own salvation led him to think of others and to praise God!
The only God, came to save sinners—to give mercy and grace—so that his worth is displayed and worshipped. He is worthy! As Andrew Peterson sings, “Is he worthy, is he worthy, of all blessing and honor and glory, is he worthy, is he worthy, is he worthy of this? HE IS!”
